Headed home again

On the shuttle headed to Denver airport. I have a long wait there, then in Cinncinatti, another wait. But soon I’ll be back home. The drive back out here was tiring, and a bit long, we did long miles every day, the final day we did almost 780, but we did some sight seeing up to see where Chris used to live and work. Nice place, but really remote and isolated. I don’t know if i could do that. We had Monday to kill, so went into town. Yesterday, i was on my own, no car, but that was ok, I needed to wind down and back up into work mode. It was raining too, so not many places I could walk to for anything. So i chilled. I have a ton of work to pump out as soon as i get back. Tomorrow. Today, i fly.

Tuesday morning

Had a bad night of sleep, but did not torture myself by looking at clock. Finally at 7:30got up. And what do my eyes see? Thunderheads. So with coffee in hand, i lowered the canopy down, but not all the way. If it gets windy, iwill. But i hope to be able to sit out here and ride it out. Thunder is rolling and it is drpping out. Maybe it will be short. God i hope so.
Had dinner wuth chris last night, and we finally got the fire going, just before she had to leave. So i stayed up as long as i could. Laid in bed doing posts, and reading, but even then 10 was my limit, so i expected to be up early, ordo like i did, sleep a bit, etc.
Just had some lightning close. This might be interesting. It does look like it is lighter skies in the west, so maybe just a passer by.
Uggh
Ok so at 8:05 it seems the thunder has passed. I sure hope that was the only one. Crap, rumble just then in the west. Doesn’t look dark thunderly. We’ll see. Now to make breakfast and figure out what i want to do in the event that it does not rain. Hardy har. Kinda sucks cuz i have no wayto getweather map. Awwww yeah, have to deal with it like it used to be. But, what is the value of the technology and such if it cannot be used? We don’t live in the old days anymore. Yes it is good to have the knowledge of how to do things without technology, but unless there is something like no power or such, why? I see no sense. Use the tools available. Maybei won’t use facebookas much, i already cut way down, and g+ is kinda annoying, and for me unfocused. Maybe i have to organize it better. Dunno.
Anyway. My shoulder is sore, i have a tingly right hand, and i think i want to go back to bed.

5:30 monday

What a nice day today is! I hopped on the bike around noon, with fishing gear in pack. Went down to where we had stopped with mom and dad two years ago, on bear lake. Really breezy, and there was someone sitting where i wanted to fish from, so went to other side. That was a hike with the bike. Fishing was tough, had only one lookie. But was able to take a few nice pics, i hope. I had forgotten to prep my 5wt line, so i had to use the 4wt on a 5wt rod, in the wind. Uggh. I got frustrated with my casting. I think i am going to take some lessons on proper casting, as well as how to nymph and wet fly fish. Can’t always dry fly. I wet waded and man that water was cold cold.

Back to camp around 2:30. The bike sucks, no clips, and when i slip off the pedal the damn thing cmes around and smacks the back of my heel. Hurts. Ate a second lunch. I think the mountains enhance the taste of everything. Then i took the little path behind the site here, made sure i had bear spray. The path looked like it might go down to the water, but it didn’t. It did go along the ridge, the water was wayyyyyy down there. But man, what views. Really nice, and i hope what i saw came into my camera. Took my time coming back up, still not acclimted to the altitude. And out of shape. What else is new?

Traveling in 2011. Yeahrealcreative

Been here in Colorado since Friday afternoon. A kamikaze driver limo from Denver to Steamboat. That was fun actually. No problems on planes or connections. Just had to wait a long time it seems after landing in Denver.
Friday night went to rodeo. Kinda boring, since there was no real enthusiasm from the crowd. And the food was outrageously expensive, really. For not so good food too. Saturday went to farmers market in the morning, then up to Pearl lake camp, to see what spot i might like. Ummm not really like any. Then off to bear lake again to scout. Yesterday morning Chris took me to brunch on the mountain, and that was really excellent food, with excellent views. Filled me right up! Then off to grab the camper, in the rain, and up to bear lake. Got the perfect site. I mean perfect. Set up stuff, in the rain. Chris took off and i made dinner. In the rain. No campfire. She has a little camper, and it is perfect. I did not sleep well, because of the rain, and a not so perfect bunk. But it was ok, cuz i have no agenda, no email, no internet, no nuthin. Mmmmm nothingness.
Last night (sunday) started to watch a movie on ipad, but it was slow moving and i was really tired so i was probably sleeping before 10. Woke around 1, i think the rain probably woke me, raining hard. Then again around 3:30, pee time. 4:45 chris’s damed alarm went off. Then around 5:30 woke again, damned moon shining in. But also about ready to be dawn. So got up, bolied water for instant coffee, and greeted the dawn. Let me tell you, instant coffee ain’t half bad when you are half awake. Took some pics of the mountain at dawn. I forgot to bring batteries out to camp, so photo taking is going to be very focused. Make me concentrate instead of being snappy happy.

So i wrote during the day. 11am, had three cups of coffee by then. Some oatmeal, which was ok. Finished watching the movie, then sat outside and did this part of the post in, hold on… Writing it on paper. Is it really a blog post if it is on paper?

The ipod battery is almost dead. The spare boost batteries I bought a few years ago, no juice. Uggh… No music. But the kindle still has a charge, and the ipad has a charge too. And i have the charger for it. Suck a little power off the battery on the camper.

Time to fish.

An Instagram?

Been a while eh?

Well, I’ve not blogged for real for some time now. Content to just use Posterus and such. Not much to say I guess. Oh… New dog. She is a sweetheart. I think she fits me and the lifestyle fine. Quiet, mellow. Mellow Willow. Pics are previous. She cost me a few buckeroos, but she gives me a sense of softness and smoothness and peace that I need. All is ok in the world when I pet her. Even knowing Lauren is drinking again I’d fine by me. Not really… But if I keep saying that to myself I may believe it eventually.
Been real busy with work, and at times it is almost overwhelming. Have to get a handle on it, so I don’t blow money away.
And… Got this here new iPad… Have to get used to the keyboard.
Ok

lessons learned on a bike ride

First: don’t park in the sun on a hot day, even if you put up your windshield reflector, and crack all the windows. When you get back from ride, on a hot day, you want shade to de-bike. Standing in the sun while trying to get car open, shoes changed, water splashed and wiped down is not really fun. I literally ran across road from where I parked car after I opend it up, just to cool down. Threw bike in car, grabbed water bottle and took off in search of a place to sit and eat sandwich, and cool down. Head was confused, I was flushed, and headed down road. Turned back, and into forest again and sat for a bit. Once I was cooled down I ate half of my PBJ and some yogurt, cooled haed with water, and realized it has been a long time since I exercised in the heat.
Second: eating yogurt with a plastic fork is at best, inadequate.
Third: cheap peanut butter has large chunks of peanuts. Good most of the time, but get caught in the holes in your teeth, inb etween your teeth and give u a hillbilly feeling.

So, I pack floss and a spork in my car bag from now on, and will always park in or close to shade when I am riding.

Oh, I will also do a shakedown ride if I do any mechanical work, before I head out on a real ride.

Other than that, had a nice ride. No I didn’t. It was just OK. I forced myself to do it. I want to do that week ride in Maine in the spring next year. Not September. Early May. I have to lose at least 30pounds. I can do it. And screw anyone who frowns on it or says “oh aren’t you scared to ride alone?” If I was scared would I even plan the ride?

yummy yummy

My dear friend, @cflinnds (aka Cheryl) made some donuts the other day,
no need to hop on bike and go to the store. I am so much wanting to do
this RIGHT NOW, as I am having major cravings. major major cravings.
so much that as soon as I post this, I am putting on my outside
clothes, and headed to the closest facility where I can purchase these
things. unfortunately that is DD, the bad one near me on N.Main St. Oh
well. But… I am going to learn how to make my own. Who cares if they
are super fattening, and not healthy. They are the best food on the
earth. well, close to it. right up there with filet mignon, cheese
doodles, and smoky blue cheese.

My birthday present

Lauren crocheted this bag for me. I am amazed. I’ll put in a satin liner and use it! Yeah it’s yellow but washable.

After a somewhat oddly productive day in the personal scheme of things, what better way to finish the day.
